The game begins with dealing four cards to the tableau and one card to the first foundation to determine the starting rank (Seven in Figure). 13 cards are dealt to the reserve. The remaining cards form the stock. The waste pile is beside the stock.
The object of Canfield is to arrange the cards up in suit into four foundations. The cards of the starting rank must be played the first.
You can build tableau columns down by alternate color. You can move more than one card if they are forming the tableau sequence.
In Figure, you can place 6 on 7.
After you have exhausted all the plays among the tableaus and foundations, take a card from the stock. Every time you click the stock, three cards are dealt to the waste pile. The top card of the waste pile can be moved to either the foundations or tableau.
If a tableau place is emptied, it can be filled with a reserved card. When the reserve is empty, cards from the waste pile can be played there.
When the stock is exhausted, click it to turn down the waste pile and to use it as a new stock. The stock can be reused three times.
